Aquaculture Animal Welfare

Three experts from around the globe (Norway, Australia, U.S) discuss the current status of aquaculture animal welfare.

Aquatic animal welfare standards are being voluntarily adopted or regulated into existence in other countries; sometimes these rules are based more on public perception and opinion, rather than science. Four speakers will present an update on these efforts in various parts of the world (European Union, Norway and Australia), which can be compared with the situation in the United States.

Speakers include:
• Craig Watson, Director, University of Florida, Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory, Ruskin, Florida.
• Howard Browman, Principle Research Scientist, Institute of Marine Research, Austevoll Research Station, Storebø, Norway.
• Ben Diggles, Director, DigsFish Services Pty, Ltd, Bribie Island, Australia.
• Randy MacMillan, Vice-President for Research, Technical Services and Quality Assurance, Clear Springs Foods, Buhl, Idaho.
